2023 & 2024 Events

The inaugural meetup of the Madison Area Potters Guild was held at the Fitchburg Public Library. Interested members brought a favorite item for Show & Tell, and an additional item for a white elephant style gift swap.

We listened to a panel discussion on home studio set up, supplies, and ideas, and had time for networking and studio brainstorming.

The June topic covered selling online to selling more generally, discussing the variety of ways that potters sell their work, including outside art fairs, inside art shows, art tours, home shows, galleries, online, and wholesale.

Guest presenters shared info on photography, including branding and photo styling, tips for photo set-up space, light boxes, light and reflection, and much more.

This was a Show & Tell! Members and guests brought their favorite ceramic piece – or a photo of the piece – to share what they love about it.

Seven juried members of the Guild sold their work at the 2023 Art Fair on the Square in Madison, WI. 

Members of the Guild volunteered at the Clay Day and Pottery Festival, July 15, 2023 in Edgerton, WI. Volunteers assisted hand-builders and helped guests throw a pot on the wheel.

Several members took part in the “Eye Candy & Cake” show during the month of November at Higher Fire Gallery in Madison.

This Meetup became a Zoom session due to weather. We broke out into two discussion groups – Creative Processes & Business Development, and New Materials & Techniques. Both groups were informative and sparked new creative directions.

We had an engaging discussion with three local shop owners and fair organizers who work regularly with clay artists: Tammy Schreiter of Hatch Art House, Julie Walser of Paoli Mercantile, and Rosy Hawbaker of The Crafty Fair. We also had a fun Tool Exchange!

This was our first ever Maker Challenge! Members were challenged to create a luminary, candle holder, or lantern to share with the group. A wide variety of fantastic creations made this Meetup extra fun.

Fifteen juried members of the Guild sold their work at the 2024 Art Fair on the Square in Madison, WI. 

This was the second year that the Guild participated in this fun community event. Guild members volunteered to teach wheel throwing, hand building and clay stomping! Plus, the Guild included a booth with member’s ceramics for sale.

We held our first annual Picnic in the Park at Olbrich Park! Guild members brought their own picnic and had a wonderful time chatting about all things clay.

We held a fun Plate Swap at Capital Brewery in Middleton!
